Washington Expels South African Ambassador

The United States announced on Friday the expulsion of South African Ambassador Ibrahim Rasool following remarks that Washington deemed anti-American.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Rasool is “no longer welcome in our great nation.”

The decision followed a lecture by Rasool, in which he criticized former President Donald Trump’s administration, accusing Trump of waging an attack on those in power and mobilizing racial supremacy both domestically and internationally.

In late 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of violating genocide laws during its war against Hamas in Gaza—a claim that Israel strongly denies.

Last month, Trump’s administration froze foreign aid to South Africa, partly in response to the ICJ case and land expropriation policies that angered both Trump and his advisor, Elon Musk.

The South African government expressed regret over the expulsion, affirming its commitment to maintaining relations with the United States.
