The international community pledged €5.8 billion ($6.3 billion) in aid for Syria and neighboring countries hosting Syrian refugees during the ninth Brussels Donor Conference.
The conference, attended by representatives from the European Union, neighboring countries, Arab states, and UN agencies, aimed to support Syria’s political transition following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad last December.
The European Union announced a contribution of €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion) for 2025 and 2026, while Germany pledged around €300 million ($326 million), and the United Kingdom committed up to $208 million.
These financial commitments come as Syria faces enormous challenges, including territorial unification, economic recovery, and infrastructure rebuilding. Estimates suggest that reconstruction efforts could require as much as $400 billion.
