The Plant Protection Institute, under Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture, warned of the potential desert locust invasion affecting 14 provinces, including areas near the Libyan border, due to southeastern winds that could aid the locusts’ movement from southern Atlas Mountains to central, eastern, and southeastern regions.
The affected areas include Ouargla, El Oued, Biskra, Touggourt, among others. The institute urged farmers and citizens to report any locust sightings.
Meanwhile, Tunisia has reported small locust groups entering the Dhehiba region in Tataouine governorate, with ongoing coordination with Libyan authorities to combat the pest.
