Axios reported, citing a U.S. official and informed sources, that President Donald Trump’s message to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei included a two-month deadline to reach a new nuclear agreement, warning that Iran’s rejection of the initiative would significantly increase the chances of military action against its nuclear facilities.
Trump had previously revealed the message, in which he proposed direct negotiations with Iran, emphasizing that the U.S. cannot allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
The message was delivered by U.S. envoy Steve Wittecoff to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi, and was then handed over by Emirati envoy Anwar Gargash to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The same sources indicated that the message was firm and outlined the two-month deadline for reaching an agreement, along with a warning about the consequences of rejecting the offer and continuing Iran’s nuclear program.
