Turkey’s Interior Ministry announced on Saturday that 343 individuals were detained during overnight protests across more than 12 cities, following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The protests erupted in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and other major cities, with thousands rallying against what many labeled a politically motivated move targeting one of Turkey’s most prominent opposition figures.
The ministry stated that some demonstrators “violated public order laws,” prompting police intervention and mass arrests. İmamoğlu’s party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), has not yet issued a detailed response.
