New Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Sunday that early parliamentary elections will be held on April 28, amidst tensions and a trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Carney explained that he seeks a strong mandate to confront Trump, stating that the U.S. president is attempting to “break” Canada.
In this context, he added that Canada will not negotiate with Trump until it is respected as a sovereign nation, noting that U.S. trade policies also harm Americans.
