The Israeli occupation authorities have refused to grant full access to the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron for Palestinian worshippers during Laylat al-Qadr, one of the holiest nights in the Islamic calendar, the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs announced on Wednesday.
Minister of Awqaf, Sheikh Mohammad Mustafa Najm, condemned the move, calling it an unprecedented violation of Muslim religious rights and a blatant attempt to limit worshippers’ freedom to access their sacred sites.
Traditionally, the full mosque — including all halls, courtyards, and prayer areas — is opened to Muslims during Laylat al-Qadr. However, this year’s restrictions follow a pattern seen throughout the current Ramadan, where Israeli forces have repeatedly denied full access to the site on Fridays as well.
