7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Causes Damage in Bangkok and Government Declares State of Emergency

Thai authorities announced today, Friday, a state of emergency in Bangkok after a strong earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck, with its epicenter in Burma.

The earthquake caused significant damage to several buildings in the Thai capital, including the collapse of an under-construction skyscraper, trapping 43 workers under the rubble.

The tremor also caused cracks in roads in the Burmese capital, Naypyidaw, and the collapse of ceilings in several buildings. As a result, Thai Prime Minister, Phatongtarn Shinawatra, held an emergency meeting to monitor the situation.

It is worth noting that Burma has experienced several strong earthquakes in the past, with the Sagaing Fault, which runs through the center of the country, being one of the most prominent earthquake zones.
