Powerful 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Central Myanmar, Felt in Thailand and China

A powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, while tremors were also felt in China and Thailand, prompting office evacuations and people rushing into the streets.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit the Sagaing region in central Myanmar. The quake struck an area about 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing city at a depth of 10 kilometers, around 12:50 p.m. local time.

Residents in Yunnan Province in southwestern China also felt the tremors caused by the Myanmar earthquake on Friday, according to the Beijing Earthquake Agency.
