Muqtada al-Sadr Announces Boycott of Upcoming Elections in Iraq

Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, announced on Thursday evening that he will boycott the upcoming elections.

This came in response to a question about the role of the Shiite national movement in election preparations.

Al-Sadr emphasized he would not participate in a “flawed electoral process” as long as corruption exists, noting that elections are far removed from the people’s suffering and regional crises.
