The death toll from the earthquake that struck Myanmar has risen to over 1,700, as recovery efforts continue to retrieve bodies from the rubble, announced the military government.
The earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, occurred during Friday prayers, resulting in the deaths of 700 worshippers when mosques collapsed.
Another 3,400 individuals were injured, and more than 300 remain missing.
This earthquake, one of the strongest to hit the country in a century, caused widespread damage in the capital, Naypyidaw, and the city of Mandalay.
