The Sudanese army announced on Saturday that its forces successfully shot down several drones launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in an attempted attack on the 19th Infantry Division Headquarters and the Merowe Dam in northern Sudan.
According to an official statement posted on the 19th Infantry Division’s Facebook page, ground defenses intercepted the aerial attack and downed the hostile drones before they could strike their intended targets. The statement confirmed that no casualties or material damage were reported.
This incident comes amid ongoing hostilities between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF, whose conflict has engulfed several regions across the country since erupting in April 2023.
The Merowe Dam is a vital national infrastructure project used for electricity generation and water storage, and any attack on it is considered a serious threat to Sudan’s national security.
The division’s command emphasized that “the situation is under control,” while the RSF has yet to issue an official response to the reported attack.
