Thousands Rally in Seoul in Support of Ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Seoul on Saturday to express support for ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol, just one day after the Constitutional Court unanimously upheld his impeachment, following his failed attempt to impose martial law.

Protesters filled Gwanghwamun Square in the heart of the capital, waving South Korean flags and holding signs that read “Justice for Yoon.” Many accused political opponents of orchestrating a politically motivated removal aimed at undermining the people’s will, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

President Yoon was impeached by the National Assembly nearly four months ago after triggering a constitutional crisis by announcing plans to impose martial law during a period of widespread protests. The military refused to comply, averting immediate escalation.

On Friday, the Constitutional Court upheld the parliamentary decision, ruling unanimously that Yoon had “violated democratic principles and endangered constitutional stability.” The verdict now leaves South Korea in a state of political limbo as the country prepares for early presidential elections.

The nation remains deeply divided, with growing concerns over internal tensions and a potential slowdown in government operations during the transition.
