A local Ukrainian official was killed on Friday morning in a car explosion in the city of Dnipro, located in eastern Ukraine. The attack, which also injured his wife, is being investigated as a “terrorist act”, according to a statement issued by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office.
The explosion occurred while the official was in his vehicle with his wife, who sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The identity of the victim has not been officially disclosed, though local sources confirm he held a municipal administrative position.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), emergency and security forces rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area and launching a criminal investigation to determine the perpetrators and potential motives behind the attack.
The incident comes amid heightened security tensions across Ukraine, particularly in the eastern and southern regions, as the ongoing war with Russia continues to escalate on multiple fronts, including intelligence and sabotage operations.
Dnipro is a strategic civilian and logistical hub in eastern Ukraine, serving both displaced civilians and military coordination efforts. Its significance has made it a sensitive target for destabilization attempts.
