Austrian authorities have closed 24 small border crossings with Hungary and Slovakia to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

This decision follows the discovery of cases in Slovakia and Hungary.

Slovakia declared a health emergency after the disease was found in three farms, while Hungary reported its first outbreak in 50 years.

Foot-and-mouth disease affects livestock and poses no risk to humans.
