The Rapid Support Forces have intensified their siege around the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, which remains under the control of the Sudanese army and its allied forces.
The troops have increased their presence in the eastern, western, and northern areas of the city, leading to mass displacement of residents in recent weeks.
Volunteer groups and neutral movements have expressed concern over the thousands of displaced individuals in the “Zamzam” and “Abu Shouk” camps, urging residents to move to safer areas under their protection.
These groups have also accused the army-aligned militias of using civilians as human shields, pointing to the digging of trenches around the camps.
Since the outbreak of war in Sudan in April 2023, El Fasher has become a battleground that has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians.
