At least 16 people were killed on Monday in a deadly attack carried out by a newly emerged terrorist group operating in northwestern Nigeria, according to security sources. The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police stated in an official press release, quoted by local media, that the attackers stormed the village of Mira and opened fire indiscriminately on residents, resulting in the reported fatalities.

The assailants are suspected to be members of the armed group “Lakurawa,” which has recently expanded its activities near the border with Niger. This attack comes amid a surge in armed violence across Nigeria, despite government efforts to secure rural areas.
