China to Raise Tariffs on U.S. Imports to 84% Starting Thursday

China’s Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday  that it will impose an additional 50% tariff on all imported goods from the United States, bringing the total tariff rate to 84%, amid growing trade tensions between the two global powers.

In an official statement, the ministry said the decision was made in response to recent U.S. trade measures, which Beijing described as “unilateral and unjustified,” emphasizing that the move is intended to safeguard China’s economic interests.

The new tariffs will take effect on Thursday, April 10, and will apply to all U.S. products without exception.

China’s existing tariffs stood at 34%, and with the new addition, the minimum total tariff level now reaches 84%, marking one of the sharpest escalations in the current trade dispute between Washington and Beijing.
