Death Toll Rises to 79 in Dominican Republic Nightclub Roof Collapse

The death toll from the collapse of a nightclub roof in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, has risen to 79, local authorities confirmed on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

According to CNN, the roof of Jet Set nightclub caved in on Tuesday night while approximately 300 people were inside.

Juan Manuel Méndez, head of the country’s Emergency Operations Center, said that at least 160 people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, he added.

Authorities have set up a temporary morgue and blood donation center near the site, as the nation mourns one of the deadliest accidents in recent years.
