The new U.S. import tariffs announced last week by President Donald Trump officially came into force on Wednesday, with China being the primary target of the sweeping trade measure.
Under the updated tariff structure, Chinese products now face a 104% import tax, while tariffs on goods from around 60 other U.S. trading partners range between 11% and 50%.
The first round of general tariffs—at a minimum of 10% on most imports—took effect last Saturday. The higher tariffs, aimed at addressing the U.S. trade deficit, were implemented at midnight (04:00 GMT) on Wednesday, further escalating trade tensions globally.
