Iraq Extends Official Invitation to Syrian President for Upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced on Wednesday that an official invitation has been sent to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to attend the upcoming Arab Summit, set to take place in Baghdad next month.

Speaking at the Sulaymaniyah International Forum, al-Sudani confirmed the invitation and emphasized that “President al-Sharaa is welcome to attend the summit,” which he described as “a significant event for hosting Arab leaders and addressing key regional issues.”

He further noted that Iraq seeks to play a pivotal role in discussions on security and economic cooperation, highlighting the country’s “strong relations with Arab states” and ongoing agreements, particularly in the fields of economy and energy.

Al-Sudani also reiterated Iraq’s position on Syria, stating: “We care deeply about the Syrian situation, but Iraq is not aligned with any political axis.”

The summit marks a key moment for Iraq’s regional diplomacy and could signal a step toward Syria’s reintegration into the Arab political landscape.
