The Sudanese army announced on Friday that 35 civilians were killed and 40 others severely injured in artillery shelling launched by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting residential neighborhoods in El Fasher, North Darfur.
According to the Sixth Infantry Division in El Fasher, the RSF carried out indiscriminate and sporadic shelling on Thursday that struck populated areas, killing women, children, and elderly people. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The RSF has not issued an official statement regarding these developments.
These incidents come just days after RSF forces claimed control over the Zamzam displacement camp near El Fasher following clashes with the Sudanese army, which reportedly resulted in 400 deaths and the displacement of tens of thousands, according to the United Nations.
