China was forced to return a new Boeing 737 Max aircraft to the Boeing production facility in Seattle after its costs surged significantly due to tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
The aircraft, designated for Xiamen Air, returned after a journey of approximately 8,000 kilometers.
These tariffs significantly impact Chinese airlines, as the market value of the aircraft is estimated at around $55 million.
Reports indicate that the Chinese government has instructed local airlines to suspend purchases of aircraft and spare parts from U.S. companies.
The basic tariffs on Chinese imports were raised to 145%, prompting Beijing to impose a 125% tariff on U.S. goods.
