Following President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France may recognize a Palestinian state in June, Israeli authorities revoked the visas of 27 French MPs who were set to visit, just two days before their planned trip to the West Bank, according to the delegation from Paris.
The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the diplomatic delegation, which includes representatives from the Socialist and Green parties, was scheduled to stay for five days from April 20 to 24.
The Israeli Interior Ministry explained that the visas were revoked under a law allowing authorities to bar entry to individuals who “act against the State of Israel.”
In response, 17 members of the diplomatic delegation issued a statement calling on the French president to intervene regarding the situation.
They noted that they had received an official invitation from the French consulate in Jerusalem for a mission described as aimed at “promoting international cooperation and a culture of peace.”
