A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia on Tuesday , according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). No tsunami warning has been issued at this time.
The earthquake occurred at 7:17 PM local time (10:17 GMT) at a depth of 117 kilometers, in a marine area located equidistant between Indonesia’s Maluku Islands and the southern Philippines.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), there were no immediate reports of tsunami alerts, damage, or casualties following the quake.
Indonesia lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a highly active seismic and volcanic zone that frequently experiences earthquakes and eruptions.
