Houthis Claim Downing US Drone and Targeting Two US Aircraft Carriers in Red and Arabian Seas

Yemen’s Houthi group announced on Tuesday evening that it had shot down a US MQ-9 drone and launched coordinated attacks on two American aircraft carriers, the USS Truman and USS Vinson, in both the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.

In a televised statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said, “Our air defenses successfully downed a hostile US MQ-9 drone while it was conducting hostile missions in the airspace over the coast of Hajjah province.” He added that the drone was hit by a locally-made surface-to-air missile.

According to Saree, this marks the seventh MQ-9 drone the group has downed in April alone, and the 22nd since the beginning of operations in support of Gaza, referencing the group’s stated solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

Saree further revealed that the Houthi missile force, drone units, and naval forces carried out two joint military operations targeting the USS Truman and USS Vinson, along with accompanying warships, using a combination of cruise missiles and drones.

As of now, no official comment has been issued by the US military.
