Sudanese Army: 47 Killed, Dozens Injured in RSF Artillery Shelling on El Fasher

The Sudanese army announced on Tuesday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out heavy artillery shelling on El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, killing 47 civilians, including 10 women, and injuring dozens more. The wounded were transported to local hospitals and health centers for treatment.

In a statement reported by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the 6th Infantry Division of the army in El Fasher said that RSF forces systematically targeted residential neighborhoods, firing approximately 250 artillery shells during Monday’s bombardment.

The statement also confirmed that army units destroyed an RSF artillery platform located to the north of El Fasher, in an effort to halt the escalating attacks.

There has been no immediate response from the Rapid Support Forces regarding the accusations.

This escalation comes amid ongoing artillery strikes by the RSF on El Fasher in recent days, which have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, according to Sudanese authorities.

A few days earlier, the RSF launched a major attack on Zamzam camp for internally displaced people in North Darfur, claiming control of the site after fierce clashes with the army and allied forces. The assault left around 400 people dead and tens of thousands displaced, according to United Nations reports.
