Jordan’s King Abdullah II began a working visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, according to an official statement from the Royal Hashemite Court.
The statement read: “His Majesty King Abdullah II departed the homeland on Wednesday, heading to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for a working visit,” without specifying the duration or agenda of the visit.
The visit comes amid heightened regional tensions, as Israel continues its military campaign in the Gaza Strip, which Amman has described as a ‘genocidal war’, in addition to ongoing Israeli violations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
On Tuesday, King Abdullah held two separate meetings at Al Husseiniya Palace with delegations from the United States and France, discussing the latest developments in the region and international efforts to halt the Israeli assault on Gaza, according to the Royal Court.
