UK Lifts Asset Freeze on Syria’s Defense, Interior Ministries and Intelligence Agencies

The United Kingdom on Thursday lifted its asset freeze on Syria’s Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, and several intelligence agencies, according to Reuters.

The move comes as Western powers reassess their approach to Syria following the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad in December by opposition forces led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, ending more than 13 years of civil war.

While the British government has not issued an official statement explaining the decision, the step is seen as part of a broader international shift in policy toward post-Assad Syria, with increasing efforts to restructure regional and global relations with Damascus under new leadership.
