Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Monday that 200,000 Syrians have returned from Turkey to their homeland since the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024.
Erdogan made the remarks during an event titled “Turkey’s Migration Management Program in the Centennial of the Republic,” held at the Ataturk Cultural Center in Istanbul.
“Despite difficulties, obstacles, and acts of sabotage, Syria is moving towards recovery,” Erdogan stated. He also noted that “Turkey currently hosts 4.034 million refugees, including 2.768 million Syrians under temporary protection.”
The Turkish president added that the number of Syrians under temporary protection is “decreasing day by day” thanks to the measures and policies implemented by the Turkish government to manage migration and refugee issues.
