Syria: At Least 16 Killed in Clashes in Sahnaya Near Damascus

At least 16 people were killed in overnight clashes that erupted late Tuesday into Wednesday in the town of Sahnaya, located southwest of the Syrian capital Damascus and predominantly inhabited by members of the Druze community, according to Syria’s official news agency SANA.

Citing a source from the Ministry of Health, SANA reported that “armed groups acting outside the law targeted civilians and security personnel” in the area, initially resulting in 11 fatalities, before the death toll was later updated to 16. Several others were reported injured.

No official details have been released regarding the identity of the assailants or the causes behind the clashes. Meanwhile, local sources confirmed a heightened security presence around the town following the incident.
