Chile Lifts Tsunami Alert, Ends Coastal Evacuation in Magallanes After Strong Offshore Quake

Chilean authorities on Friday lifted a tsunami warning and ended the precautionary evacuation of the coastline in the southern Magallanes Region, following a strong offshore earthquake earlier in the day.

Carlos Andrade, Regional Director of the Disaster Prevention and Response Office in Magallanes, stated:
“The preventive evacuation has ended. In other words, everyone has returned to their activities. All sectors will operate normally, except for coastal economic activities.”

Emergency protocols were swiftly activated after the quake, but authorities later confirmed that no tsunami threat remained, based on sea level assessments.

No casualties or major damage have been reported so far, and monitoring of the area continues as a precaution.
