Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared victory on Saturday in the country’s general election, pledging to guide the nation through a challenging period of global uncertainty.
Speaking to supporters at an election night event in Sydney, the center-left Labor Party leader said:
“Thank you to the Australian people for the opportunity to continue serving the greatest nation on Earth,” according to Agence France-Presse.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Peter Dutton, head of the right-wing Liberal Party, conceded defeat and confirmed he had called Albanese to congratulate him on his win.
Albanese’s re-election comes amid economic volatility and domestic challenges, including inflation and climate change—issues he has promised to address in his next term.
