Friedrich Merz took the oath of office on Tuesday as Germany’s new Chancellor, receiving 325 votes in the second round.

The leader of the conservative party, Friedrich Merz, was elected Chancellor in the second round of the parliamentary vote, following his defeat in the first round against the Social Democratic Party.
