Sudan: Seven Civilians Killed in Artillery Shelling on Al-Fashir

The Sudanese army announced on Monday that seven civilians were killed and 15 others injured in an artillery shelling carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting residential neighborhoods in the city of Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur state, on Sunday.

The 6th Infantry Division in Al-Fashir stated that the shelling targeted unarmed civilians and resulted in the death of two women among the victims. The injured were transferred to hospitals and health centers for treatment, according to the statement.

This incident comes amid escalating clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF in Darfur, with Al-Fashir witnessing repeated attacks in recent weeks. In April, reports indicated that at least 45 civilians were killed in a similar shelling on the city.

Al-Fashir remains a strategic stronghold for the Sudanese army in the Darfur region, serving as a hub for humanitarian operations.

As of 06:25 GMT, the RSF has not issued any statement in response to the army’s accusations regarding the latest shelling.

The ongoing violence has raised increasing concerns over the safety of civilians in Al-Fashir, as the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate amid the prolonged conflict.
