Dbeibah Announces Security Restored in Tripoli Following Clashes Over Death of Abdul Ghani al-Kikli

Libya’s Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, announced on Tuesday that full security has been restored in the capital, Tripoli, following violent overnight clashes sparked by reports of the death of Abdul Ghani al-Kikli, head of the Stability Support Apparatus.

Dbeibah stated that the Ministries of Interior and Defense acted “swiftly and decisively” to contain the unrest, affirming that “security has returned to the capital” and warning that no attempts to destabilize the city will be tolerated.

Heavy fighting broke out late Monday in the Salah al-Din and Abu Salim neighborhoods of southern Tripoli, reportedly involving forces from the Stability Support Apparatus and the 444th Combat Brigade, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Defense, according to local media including Libya Al-Ahrar.

While no official statement has been issued confirming al-Kikli’s death or the precise circumstances of the clashes, the incident has raised fears of renewed violence in the capital, as the government struggles to assert its authority amid a fragile political landscape.
