A senior Hamas official announced on Thursday that the movement is prepared to step down from governing Gaza to achieve peace.
This statement came during direct talks with the United States regarding the war in Gaza, where Bassem Naim, a member of the political bureau, confirmed that Hamas presented its peace proposal, which includes a prisoner exchange, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces, allowing the entry of aid, and the reconstruction of the enclave.
In a related context, U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking from Qatar, stated that he wants the United States to “own” Gaza and transform it into a “freedom zone.”
He added, “I would be proud if the United States owned it and made it a freedom zone.”
