The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, has temporarily stepped down as of Friday pending the investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against a junior staff member.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the accusations suggest that Khan, who has held his position since 2021, pressured an assistant in a hotel room in New York City in December 2023.
In response, Khan’s lawyers stated that all allegations are “completely false and unfounded.”
A report from the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services is expected to be released in the coming months.
