Istanbul to Host Two Trilateral Meetings Friday in Push for Russia-Ukraine Peace

The Turkish city of Istanbul is set to host two key trilateral meetings on Friday as part of renewed international efforts to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

The first meeting will bring together representatives from Turkey, the United States, and Ukraine, while the second will include Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine. Both sessions will be held at the Presidential Office in Dolmabahçe Palace.

The Turkey–U.S.–Ukraine meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. local time (07:45 GMT), followed by the Turkey–Russia–Ukraine meeting at 12:30 p.m. (09:30 GMT), according to details shared with Anadolu Agency.

The U.S. delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ukraine will be represented by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and the Russian side will be headed by Presidential Advisor Vladimir Medinsky.

On Thursday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with the Russian delegation, led by Medinsky, in a preparatory session at the same location.

The meetings come in response to a proposal made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 11 to resume direct negotiations with Ukraine without preconditions. Putin also requested that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan host the new round of peace talks in Istanbul.
