Erdogan Announces Discovery of 75 Billion Cubic Meters of Natural Gas in Black Sea, Valued at $30 Billion

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Saturday that Turkey has discovered a new natural gas reserve totaling 75 billion cubic meters in the Goktepe field in the Black Sea.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Istanbul Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital in the Bahçelievler district, Erdogan said the newly discovered volume could meet household gas demand in Turkey for approximately three and a half years.

He added that the market value of the reserve is estimated at $30 billion, describing the find as a major turning point for the Turkish people.

Erdogan emphasized that ongoing discoveries in the Black Sea—particularly in the Sakarya and Goktepe fields—mark a strategic milestone in Turkey’s pursuit of energy independence.

The announcement aligns with Ankara’s broader efforts to strengthen national energy security and reduce reliance on foreign energy imports amid global energy challenges.
