U.S. Supreme Court Allows Trump to End Protection for 350,000 Venezuelan Migrants

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of President Donald Trump’s administration, allowing it to revoke temporary protected status (TPS) for approximately 350,000 Venezuelan migrants—a decision that could lead to their mass deportation.

The court’s decision, passed by a majority vote with only one dissenting judge, suspends a lower court ruling that had previously blocked the removal of TPS protections, which were set to expire last month.

TPS grants migrants the legal right to live and work in the United States if their home country is deemed unsafe due to natural disasters, armed conflict, or humanitarian crises. The protected status had applied to hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans fleeing political and economic turmoil in their country.

Since returning to office, President Trump has pushed for the termination of TPS for various migrant groups, arguing that conditions in their home countries have improved. His administration has filed multiple legal challenges aimed at stripping migrants of their protective status.
