The United Nations announced on Tuesday that it has received approval from Israeli authorities to deliver approximately 100 trucks carrying humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, where millions face severe hunger and deteriorating living conditions due to an ongoing blockade and months of war.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stated during a press briefing in Geneva that the UN was also granted permission to receive the first five aid trucks that entered Gaza on Monday—marking the first such delivery in weeks.
“This is an important step,” Laerke said, “but the humanitarian needs are immense, and we urgently need consistent and safe access for aid through all available crossings.”
The announcement follows growing international pressure on Israel to facilitate the entry of humanitarian supplies, as UN agencies and aid organizations warn of famine risks threatening the lives of more than two million Palestinians trapped inside the besieged enclave.
