Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi announced on Wednesday that the fifth round of indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program will take place on Friday, May 23, in Rome.
In a post on the social media platform X, Al-Busaidi wrote: “The fifth round of talks between Iran and the United States will be held in Rome on Friday,” without disclosing further details about the agenda or the level of representation.
Oman has been playing a key mediating role in efforts to revive diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran, particularly amid stalled negotiations to restore the 2015 nuclear deal and heightened regional tensions.
This upcoming round is seen as a critical test of whether meaningful progress can be achieved through diplomacy, as concerns mount over a potential regional arms race should talks ultimately fail.
