Houthis Strike Ben Gurion Airport and Sites in Israel

Yemen’s Houthi movement announced on Thursday that it had launched a ballistic missile and two drones targeting Ben Gurion Airport and “vital sites” in the Israeli cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa, in a renewed show of support for Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In an official statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said: “The Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a precision strike using a ballistic missile of the ‘Zulfiqar’ type on Lod Airport (Ben Gurion).”

Saree claimed that the attack disrupted airport operations for nearly an hour. He added that two drones were also launched, targeting critical infrastructure in Tel Aviv and Haifa, though no specific details were provided about the nature or outcome of those strikes.

The announcement came hours after the Israeli military reported intercepting a missile fired from Yemen, triggering air raid sirens across central Israel, including Tel Aviv. No casualties or damage were reported, according to Israeli authorities.

The incident marks another escalation in the Houthis’ regional campaign, which has seen repeated missile and drone attacks against Israeli targets since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.
