A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of the Greek island of Crete on Thursday, according to the Athens Institute of Geodynamics.
The institute reported that the quake’s epicenter was located approximately 79 kilometers northeast of the island and occurred at a depth of 40 kilometers.
As of 06:20 GMT, there were no official reports of casualties or property damage.
The Aegean region is known for its seismic activity, as it lies along the complex boundary between tectonic plates and frequently experiences moderate to strong earthquakes.
