Sudanese Army Uncovers Mass Graves with 465 Bodies Following Retake of Khartoum

The Sudanese Army announced on Thursday the discovery of mass graves containing the remains of 465 individuals in the Salha area, south of Omdurman, following its full recapture of Khartoum earlier this week after the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In an official statement posted on its website, the army said its field units uncovered the graves during post-conflict security sweeps. The statement indicated that the bodies belong to both civilians and soldiers who were allegedly executed during RSF control of the area.

“These sites represent further evidence of atrocities committed by the RSF during their occupation of southern Omdurman,” the army said, confirming that the case has been referred to military prosecutors for further investigation and legal action.

The discovery comes just two days after the army declared Khartoum free of RSF presence, following its capture of the last remaining RSF strongholds in western and southern Omdurman. The announcement marks a significant shift in the ongoing conflict, which has devastated Sudan’s capital and led to thousands of deaths and mass displacement.
