Authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have requested that the Senate lift the immunity of former President Joseph Kabila to face trial for allegedly supporting a rebellion in the eastern part of the country.

Justice Minister Constant Mutamba confirmed that there is clear evidence incriminating Kabila in committing “war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

Kabila, however, denies these charges amid rising tensions in the eastern regions.
