China: AI companies include Arabic in product development

Artificial intelligence (AI) companies in China have announced that they are developing multilingual products, including Arabic, to meet the needs of different groups around the world.

Chris Shum Chiu-Fei, co-founder and CEO of Asiabots, said the company initially prioritised developing AI solutions in Cantonese, a local dialect of Chinese, but over time customer demand for AI solutions in different languages, including Arabic, has increased.

Luo Lei Wei, director of Sinstime Research Institute, one of China’s AI research institutions, said that equipping AI with multilingual capabilities is a good thing to improve it, to help humanity, to access and use it in a way that does not neglect some groups and achieves the original goal of humanity’s pursuit of technological progress.
