China’s State Council announced on Friday the imposition of retaliatory tariffs of 34% on all goods and products imported from the United States, in response to sweeping tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The move marks a sharp escalation in the ongoing trade war between the world’s two largest economies. In an official statement, Beijing criticized the U.S. measures as “hostile and unbalanced,” emphasizing China’s sovereign right to defend its national and economic interests.
The newly announced tariffs will take immediate effect and cover key sectors such as agriculture, technology, and heavy industry, aiming to exert pressure on Washington to reverse its unilateral trade policies.
Analysts warn that this latest round of tit-for-tat measures could further destabilize global markets and disrupt international supply chains.
