German Chancellor Merz to Visit Washington for First Official Meeting with President Trump

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is scheduled to travel to Washington on Wednesday evening for his first official meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, the German government announced on Saturday.

Speaking at a press briefing in Berlin, government spokesperson Stephan Cornelius said the visit will include a formal meeting between the two leaders at the White House on Thursday, followed by a working lunch and a joint press conference.

The upcoming meeting marks the first encounter between Chancellor Merz and President Trump since Merz assumed office on May 6.
